The National Assembly Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Tuesday, undertook an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Cross River.
During the exercise, the committee evaluated the performance, transparency and impact of ongoing NDDC projects across the state.
Speaking at a meeting with Gov. Bassey Otu, leader of the team, Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong, said that the visit aligned with the committee’s constitutional mandate to ensure accountability in project implementation.
Ekpenyong said that the exercise aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting effective and sustainable development interventions.
He commended the Otu-led government for implementing visible projects that were positively impacting the lives of people across the state.
“I am confident of improved outcomes in Cross River, we shall continue to collaborate with the state to accelerate project delivery to the people’s benefit,” he said.
Reacting, Otu thanked the lawmakers for their commitment to quality oversight and accountability in project implementation.
“You are doing very well, your commitment to national development through effective legislative oversight of intervention programmes is commendable,” he said.
The governor said that the visit would not only strengthen collaboration between the state and the Federal Government but enhance governance outcomes and service delivery.
He acknowledged the impact of Federal Government’s intervention projects on the state, saying, “we call for sustained implementation of such projects to improve the wellbeing of communities.
“I emphasise collective responsibility in governance and the need for synergy among stakeholders to achieve meaningful and measurable development,” he said.
The Managing Director, NDDC, Mr Samuel Ogbuku, said that the commission was implementing about 27km of roads across the state.
Ogbuku said that 10.7km of the roads had been completed, and attributed the achievement to strong collaboration between the commission and the state government.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
