The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) has commended the Edo Government for its commitment to improving the lives of residents of the state.
The NEC/IMC Team Lead, Mrs Busayo Awotunde, gave the commendation on Tuesday in Benin, after an inspection tour of some legacy projects by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Elizabeth Ebosele.
Awotunde noted that the Gov. Monday Okpebholo’s administration was barely two years old, yet had achieved so much.
According to her, it shows that the administration is committed to improving the lives of Edo people.
“We are going to report that the Edo government is committed to and aligned with efforts to improve the livelihoods of her people.
“Edo has invested resources and demonstrated commitment to ensuring that the objectives of the council’s resolutions are being achieved.”
Earlier, Ebosele explained that the monitoring team was in the state not to witch-hunt anyone, but to assess the legacy projects undertaken by the Okpebholo administration in line with NEC resolutions.
She said the Ramat Park Flyover was conceived out of necessity; not only to decongest traffic, but also to improve the ease of doing business in the state.
She revealed that the flyover was nearing completion and would be inaugurated soon.
“When completed, market women and other traders will be able to carry out their businesses more efficiently, thereby improving their economic activities.
“This economic empowerment is one of the key considerations of the governor when he assumed office.
“And this is why he immediately approved the construction of the flyover. The road connects to the federal highway linking the state to the northern part of the country,” she said.
Also speaking, the state Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, commended the monitoring team for concluding its three-day assessment visit to the state.
Idahosa said the legacy projects initiated by the state government were visible across Edo.
He said that the governor was executing projects simultaneously across the state’s three senatorial districts, noting that the rainy season was responsible for absent of construction equipment on sites.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
