Huge turnout as election holds amid massive security in Igabi Fed. Constituency, Kaduna (Page 1,837)

By Aisha Gambo

The by-election in Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State on Saturday recorded impressive turn-out of voters and adequate deployment of security personnel, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the by-election in two polling units of U.Mai-lungu 098 and U.G Waziri 126 in Rigasa ward.

The voters were seen in their numbers queuing to exercise their franchise, while security operatives were seen at strategic locations around the voting areas.

Hajiya Asabe Abubakar, a woman leader and an observer, told NAN at U.Mai-lungu 098 that voting started as early as 8.30 a.m, adding that the exercise was going on smoothly and peacefully as at the time of filing this report

"As you can see, women, youths and other voters came out in large numbers and are demonstrating the zeal to vote for the candidates of their choice’’, she said.

Abubakar explained that some came out as early as 7. a.m. and joined the queues to demonstrate their confidence in the electoral process’’, she said.

Sarkin Salisu Sani of Samarin Rigasa community who took part in the exercise commended INEC and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for the conduct of the election.

He added that accreditation and voting began at about 8:30 a.m. in his area, noting that there was no case of violence in spite the impressive turn-out of voters.

An octogenarian, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who came out for the exercise but was not allowed to vote because he misplaced his Permanent Voter Card, regretted that he was unable to vote.

"I was unable to vote because I could not find my card, all I could see was my National Identity card, I pray that in the near future, the authorities would allow those with the national identity cards to vote ", he said.

U. Mai-lungu 098 Polling Unit has 241 registered voters while U.G Waziri Polling Unit 126 has 750 registered voters.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
