The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Mr Abdullah Ahmed, says doubts of some members of the National Assembly on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has been cleared.
Ahmed said that the doubts were cleared by the pace and quality of the road construction.
He spoke during an inspection tour of road projects in Lagos and neighbouring states with the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi.
“We thought this project was going to take forever, but the speed we are seeing has cleared doubts.
“The quality of work we are seeing here, as a construction engineer, it is top-notch,” he said.
Ahmed also praised the contractor, Hitech Construction Company Ltd., for demonstrating capacity.
“Nigerians need to see what is going on here,” he said.
The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South, Dr Samuel Mamuyon, expressed the hope that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would last for up to 200 years.
“Nigerians can come and see for themselves. We are talking about the most criticised and most investigated Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
“This is the best Nigerians can have as a gift. We want to thank God Almighty for giving us a president in Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who believes in the future of this nation,” he said.
The APC official remarked that the coastal highway was a type of development every country would want to leave for its people.
“I want to thank the minister of works for coming through, for showing Nigerians that concrete paved roads can work, and we want Nigerians to know that it is a reality.”
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement for South-East, Mrs Chioma Nweze, thanked the National Assembly for support to Tinubu and Umahi in their efforts toward road infrastructure development.
“I want to thank Mr President for the roads that he is creating all around Nigeria.
“We have gone around to know that these roads join every region in Nigeria,” Nweze said.
She also expressed the hope that the roads being constructed by the Tinubu administration would outlive the present generation.
“We are here to say tell Mr President ‘thank you’ for remembering all the regions. All the jobs under Ministry of Works are going on at the same time.”
Mr Bola Ajilesoro, a Member of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, said that Tinubu’s legacy projects would give Nigerians hope.
“I have been to North-Central, North-West, North-East, South-South.
“I have been to the other side of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. Now, I am here. All I can say is that honourable minister, you are a round peg in round hole.
“This is a legacy project that will uplift all of us.”
