The Ilesa Grammar School Old Students Association in Osun has called on the Federal Government to revamp the educational sector and make it worthy of global standards.

Addressing newsmen in Ilesa on Monday as part of the activities heralding the 90th Anniversary of the school, Dr Wale Bolorunduro, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, called on government to invest more in education to improve its quality.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ilesa Grammar School was founded on Feb. 5, 1934.

Bolorunduro said that activities for the anniversary would galvanise the old students toward bringing back the lost glory of the school.

“To understand the reason Ilesa Grammar School products shine so brightly in whatever space they occupy, nationally or globally, is to understand the cord that binds them.

“That cord is the Omoluabi or Omoluabi trait that the school ingrained in them ” he said.

He said if government could invest in the quality and funding of education, Nigerians would have no reason to travel abroad to study, noting that the situation was putting pressure on the Naira.

“Nigerians schooling abroad are putting pressure on the Naira.

“It is easy to say prices of things had gone up and the reason is because the exchange rate had gone up.

“This is because people are looking for dollars to pay the school fees of their children abroad and this is affecting our economy.

“Government should therefore invest in the quality of education to discourage people from going abroad for study,” he said.

In his remarks, the National President of the association, Dr Obisesan Daramola, lamented that government was not paying the needed attention to the quality education, which had increased the number of out-of-school children in the country.

“Government at all levels should prioritise education and that is human capital development.

“It is painful that due to lack of finance, many children are roaming the streets, unable to go to school and that should not be the case.

“Government at all levels should therefore prioritise education, health and security, but in particular education, because it is everything, it brings development,” he said.

Members of the association include Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God; retired Justice Alfa Belgore, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, among others. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

“It is noteworthy that all the past administrations had contributed to the growth and development of the university in their own capacities.

“I, therefore, use this opportunity to encourage the vice-chancellor to ensure that the university continues to ride on the path of excellence it is known for.

“RUN is God’s own university and the new administration must be ready to make sacrifices in order to ensure that it remains the pride of the past and the future generations.

Why theological education is important to society — Pastor Adeboye

By Victor Adeoti

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCCG), says theological education is very vital in correcting heresies and wrong doctrines in the society.

Adeboye said this on Tuesday during the inauguration of new administrative building and chapel of RCCG Bible College main campus, Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun.

Represented by Pastor Joseph Obayemi, National Overseer Emeritus, RCCG, Adeboye said theological education was necessary to guild and train up and coming pastors against wrong doctrine.

“Theological education, such as ours is very vital to our society, especially in this end time when there is a lot of heresies and wrong doctrines in our society.

“This happens when the up and coming pastors, who have no mentor will just climb the pulpit and say so many wrong things.

“And because of the charisma and youthful exuberance, many will continue to follow them, but school like this can be used to guild them.

“If they come for the training, we will teach them that there is difference between being charismatic, anointed by God or being matured spiritually.

“Theological education open our eyes to see more rudiments of Christianity and not just anybody going to the pulpit to preach.

“So, theological education is very necessary for our time and it will continue to be useful, even in the nearest future, ” he said.

Adeboye also said that the new administrative building of the college was a reflection of the glory of God.

In his remarks, Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi, RCCG Continental Overseer, said the Bible college was an integral part of the church.

Odeyemi said the college was crucial to the progress of the church and to maintain the integrity of the doctrine of the gospel.

“The Bible college is an integral part of RCCG.

“An expanding organisation like redeemed, required trained hands and so the college is crucial to our progress and to maintain the integrity of the doctrine and the gospel.

“And that is the reason occasion like this makes us happy and show to us that the college is making progress and the people put in charge not disappointing us, ” he said.

Also, Pastor Babatunde Adedibu, the provost of the college, said the motivation behind the new building was the resolution of the board of governors to reposition the college to an affiliate of two recognised universities in Nigeria by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Adedibu, who noted that the construction of the building started on Oct. 19, 2017, said it was conceived to serve the immediate and future need of the college.

He thanked the General Overseer and his wife for their financial, moral and spiritual support. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

He prayed that everything they touched in year 2021 should prosper and there would  be good news.

“I pray a year like 2020 will never come our way again. And year 2021 will be better, a year of rejoicing, of good news.

“2021 will attract miracles, signs and wonder. It will be far more successful than year 2020.

“I pray as you have praised God this year, He will bless you all. I decree in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, everything you touch this year shall prosper.

“There will be no famine and fruitless efforts. God will bless you fearfully. Bless you with signs and wonder.

“He will fill your mouth with laughter. A year of singing, dancing,  rejoicing for all of you. It shall be a year of good news,´´ Adeboye prayed.
