Wike denies lobbying for APC presidential campaign DG

By Philip Yatai

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports suggesting that he is lobbying to be appointed Director-General (DG) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Wike made the rebuttal in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, on Monday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a report by some sections of the media had listed Wike among top party members and government officials lobbying or being mentioned for the position of the APC presidential campaign DG.

Reacting, the minister described the report as false saying, ”I did not at any time discuss leadership or even membership of the PCC with anyone”.

He reiterated his unflinching support for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu, adding that he does not need to be the DG or even member of the PCC to ensure the reelection of Tinubu in Rivers and FCT.

“I am currently outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days inaugurating completed and new projects, and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January.

“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers and the FCT.

“Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota.

”I will ensure that Tinubu wins with wide margins in Rivers and the FCT,” Wike said. (NAN)
