The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has urged Nigerians to renew their faith in the country and participate actively in nation-building, as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The party made the call in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Egbeola Wale Martins, on Thursday in Abuja.
The YPP said although Nigeria might not yet be where its citizens desired after 66 years of independence, Nigerians should not lose faith in the country, stressing that a better Nigeria was possible.
It said the country’s greatest strength remained its people, adding that Nigeria’s future depended on how well its human capital, ideas, creativity and enterprise were harnessed.
The party also urged Nigerians to critically examine candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, rather than being influenced by party slogans, money or temporary inducements.
It said voters should consider candidates’ vision, competence, character, records and capacity to deliver on their promises.
According to the YPP, the 2027 election provides Nigerians with an opportunity to demand accountability, reject bad governance and choose the kind of leadership they desire.
The party urged Nigerians to reject electoral inducement and transactional politics, saying temporary gifts should not be exchanged for four years of good governance.
“Our votes are our voices. Our votes are our power. And our collective will is stronger than intimidation,” the party said.
The YPP said it remained committed to providing Nigerians with what it described as a credible alternative and a vision of building an egalitarian society anchored on citizens as the country’s prime resource.
It said the party had presented Mr Peter Agada as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election following its leadership recruitment process.
The party also highlighted its Labour Direct Initiative, saying it was designed to promote policies aimed at improving living standards, reducing the cost of governance and expanding productive opportunities through a bottom-up approach.
The YPP said Nigeria was not short of resources, talent or ideas, but needed leadership with the vision, competence and courage to put the country’s resources and human capital to productive use.
The party called on Nigerians to participate actively in nation-building and use the 2027 election to demand leadership that was visionary, competent, accountable and responsive to their needs.
It also saluted the resilience and strength of Nigerians and wished citizens peace, prosperity and renewed zeal to contribute to the development of the country.
The YPP urged Nigerians to work collectively toward building the Nigeria they desired.(NAN)
