The Nigerian Navy has constructed nine boreholes and a healthcare centre at Fungzai Community of Bwai District,  Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau.
Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of  Naval Staff (CNS),  inaugurated the projects on Tuesday in Mangu.
Represented by Rear Admiral Naan-Manle Damtong, the Chief of Naval Engineering, Abbas said that the projects were part of the Quick Impact Projects initiated by the Navy.
He said that the gesture, initiated by the immediate past CNS in 2024, was aimed at promoting Civil Military Cooperation in Plateau.
The CNS explained that the projects were done in honour of Rear Admiral Habila Zakaria, an indigene of the community
He added that the gesture would go a long in winning the hearts and minds of the people in the ongoing peace operations in the state.
Abbas maintained that the initiative was in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at meeting the bearings and aspirations of Nigerians.
“These projects are avenues for the Nigerian Navy to honour its accomplished senior officers.
“It is an indication that beyond physically securing lives and property, we are committed to serving the interests of Nigerians through others ways.
“Not only that these projects resonate with the vision of the Bola Tinubu administration, it captures the essence of the quick impact initiative as conceived by the Nigerian Navy ,”he said.
The CNS, however, called on residents of the community to use the facilities responsibly.
Earlier, Zakaria, who thanked the CNS for executing the projects in his honour, said that the facilities would no doubt ameliorate the sufferings of his kinsmen.
Zakaria decried the absence of potable water and basic healthcare by residents of the community in the past and  described the CNS’s intervention as ‘timely’
“These projects will open the doors to clean water, good health and dignity to people and the community in general,”he said.
In his remarks, the District Head of Bwai, Mr Gabriel Gusat, thanked the CNS for honouring their son with the life-saving interventions.
He assured the Nigerian Navy that the projects would be put to proper use by the people. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
