Moses Simon and Jerome Akor Adams were on target as Nigeria defeated Iran 2–1 in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey, on Friday.

The match, played at Corendon Airlines Park, saw the Super Eagles blend early attacking intent with late defensive discipline, reflecting the growing identity of coach Eric Chelle’s evolving side.

Samuel Chukwueze set the tone early, delivering a precise pass to Simon, who calmly slotted it home in the sixth minute to give Nigeria the lead.

Nigeria dominated much of the first half but wasted several chances to extend their lead before the break.

Chelle made changes at halftime, introducing debutant Emmanuel Fernandez, as Nigeria resumed strongly in the second half.

Ademola Lookman provided an assist for Akor Adams, who doubled Nigeria’s lead six minutes after the restart with a composed finish.

Chibuike Nwaiwu also made his debut, coming on after Calvin Bassey’s withdrawal, as Chelle rotated his squad to maintain intensity.

Iran responded through Mehdi Taremi midway into the second half, reducing the deficit and setting up a tense finale.

Substitutions involving Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru helped Nigeria maintain control and see out the game.

Frank Onyeka featured late as Nigeria secured their second-ever win over Iran, adding to their 1998 Carlsberg Cup victory.

The Super Eagles will next face Jordan on Tuesday as Chelle continues preparations for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
