A gender advocate, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi, has called on Nigerian women to actively involve in politics, saying sustainable national development depends on the active participation and contributions of women in all sectors.

Hajiya Abdullahi said this at the National Convention/Award Presentation, organised by the Nigerian Women of Integrity Per Excellence Paragon Association in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the convention was “Women in Politics (Merit and Demerit).”

Hajiya Abdullahi, who was also guest speaker at the convention, who said women have a vital role to play in nation building, urged them to take up leadership responsibilities in their communities and across the country.

According to her, sustainable national development depends on the active participation and contributions of women in all sectors.

She urged women to become actively involved in politics, stressing that meaningful representation in governance would enable them to contribute more effectively to policy formulation and decision-making.

According to her, women remain the bedrock of society and possess the capacity to drive positive change.

Hajiya Abdullahi also encouraged women to be exemplary in character and conduct wherever they find themselves.

She advised them to uphold integrity, diligence, and compassion, saying that their actions should inspire others and reflect the values they wish to see in society.

She further described women as the pillar of every society, highlighting their indispensable roles in nurturing families, promoting peace, and fostering national development.

She called on women to remain united, confident, and committed to making lasting contributions to the growth and progress of the nation.

Also speaking, Dr Damilola Fetuga, the Grand Patron of the Nigerian Women of Integrity Per Excellence Paragon Association, urged women to step out of their comfort zones and actively contribute to nation building.

She stressed that women possess the capacity, knowledge, and leadership qualities needed to drive national development.

She encouraged women to participate actively in politics, noting that the era when women were expected to remain at home and stay away from leadership and decision-making processes is over.

She added that women should embrace opportunities to influence policies and governance.

Fetuga also called on governments at all levels to create an enabling environment that supports women’s participation in politics and other sectors of national development.

She emphasised the need for policies that promote equal opportunities and remove barriers limiting women’s involvement.

She urged women to remain confident, united, and committed to making meaningful contributions to society, stressing that their active participation is essential for sustainable national growth and development.

NAN reports that the association represents the true honour and integrity it stands for as it honoured Mr Eric Nnamdi Anyamene with Integrity Man of the Year 2026.

The association’s convention also produced its new executives with the emergence of Mrs Manu Ramatu as Northern leader, Blessings Odibe, South- East leader, Mrs Nancy Daniel, South-West leader, Mrs Umoh, South-South leader and other key executive members. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
