Canada strategic investor, partner as Nigeria leads trade – FG

Nigeria will continue to partner with Canada as part of its strategic investors and partners in trade, investment and industry.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, gave the assurance at a reception in honour of the Canadian Secretary of State for International Development, Mr Randeep Sarai, in Lagos on Friday night.

“We are committed to making sure that we have investment promotion and protection for all Canadian investors in Nigeria and Nigerian investors in Canada.

“We just had a bilateral talk on our mutual commitment to make that happen,” Oduwole said.

According to her, development is at the heart of trade, investment and industry.

She said that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu was committed to development.

Oduwole said that under  the African Continental Free Trade Area, Nigeria had ratified the protocol on women and youth and would continue to emphasise that aspect.

She said that, across Africa, Nigeria had been leading  in trade with several programmes and partnerships.

She said that Nigeria had a programme to support women investors and women in manufacturing.

Oduwole said that Nigeria was committed to working with Canadian investors and other partners to deliver the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.

Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said at the event that Lagos State Government was prepared to work with Canadian investors in key sectors.

Sanwo-Olu was represented by the state Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment,  Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem.

He said that his administration was committed to making Lagos a 21st Century economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.

The governor said that his administration was doing much to promote export, adding that it  was training more than 250 businesses on how  to export goods.

He announced that the state would organise the 2026 edition of  “Invest in Lagos  Summit” on June 8 and June 9, in partnership with the Commonwealth.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that summit is designed to connect global investors, business leaders and policymakers to drive infrastructure, technology, and economic projects across the state. (NAN)( www.nannews.ng)
