The opening ceremony of the third International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages

The Third International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages successfully held in Songyang, Zhejiang

Officials, experts and scholars from 17 countries and 18 international organizations exchanged views on the theme of Enhancing Urban-Rural Connectivity to Build Better Livelihoods at the third International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages unveiled in Songyang County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, on 30 October.

The event was sponsored by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Zhejiang Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Transport and Lishui Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the Songyang County People’s Government.

Michal Mlynár, UN assistant secretary general and deputy executive director of UN-Habitat, delivers a speech via video at the third International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages.

In his speech, Michal Mlynár, UN assistant secretary general and deputy executive director of the UN-Habitat, said that the forum has become an important dialogue platform for global urban-rural linkages. At the forum, participants exchanged ideas, shared experiences and moved forward firmly toward the goal of sustainable regional development. Songyang is a place that tactfully blends urban and rural features in harmony, vividly demonstrating the power of urban-rural connections, he said, adding that it allows people to see the wonderful sparks of local knowledge, culture and innovation, and shows how to achieve common prosperity by narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas.

Remy Sietchiping, chief of Policy, Legislation and Governance Section of the UN-Habitat, said that the theme of this year’s forum aptly echoes the UN-Habitat’s goal of “reduced spatial inequality and poverty in communities across the urban – rural continuum.”

Zhejiang is a province with 701 Chinese traditional villages and three demonstration counties for the concentrated and contiguous protection and utilization of traditional villages. As one of the first batch of such counties in China, Songyang coordinated and promoted the Saving the Old Houses Action and the ecological restoration action of traditional villages. The county uses culture and architecture as the starting point to promote material renewal and cultural revitalization, and achieve healthy urban and rural development through the implementation of what has come to be known as the Songyang Model.

As the first pilot county for the development of smart transportation industry in Zhejiang, Songyang puts special emphasis on technological innovation and digital technology application, and has become a demonstration area where transportation connects urban and rural development and promotes common prosperity.

Mo Liang, secretary of the CPC Songyang County Committee, said in his speech that the forum is a platform for inspiring ideas. He hoped that through the exchanges and discussions at this forum, the world’s advanced concepts and practices can bring inspiration to Songyang’s urban and rural construction and development.

In recent years, Songyang has actively explored sustainable development paths for urban and rural areas. In May 2019, at the invitation of the UN-Habitat, the Songyang County People’s Government, as the only county-level representative, participated in the first United Nations Habitat Conference and signed a letter of intent for cooperation.

The first two editions of International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkage were held in Songyang in November 2019 and October 2021, and it was agreed to hold the forum every two years in the future.

The 3rd Season of the Documentary “China” is Sought After by Young People

The 3rd Season of the Documentary “China” is Sought After by Young People

Tracing the distant “childhood” of the Chinese people with the history of images. Recently, the third season of the documentary “China”, which is being broadcast on Hunan TV, Hunan Broadcasting System and Mango TV, has become a popular TV program for young Chinese with its grand and subtle narrative, innovation and sophisticated production.

As the final work of the documentary series “China”, the 3rd season of “China” starts from the source to explore the origin of Chinese civilization and decode the genes of cultural inheritance. From the myths and legends of PanGu founding of the world and the creation of man by NvWa, to the archaeological historical materials such as Erlitou civilization and bronze ware, from the prehistoric society full of stars to the dynasties Xia, Shang and Zhou in the widearea, with the gestation and development of etiquette as the main line, the unique place of Chinese civilization is elucidated, so that the world can perceive what is China. After the documentary was broadcast, it aroused enthusiastic reactions among the audience. Related topics frequently appeared in hot searches on social platforms, spreading exposure up to 3 billion times, and won the first place in the fusion communication index.

In order to better express the lives of the forefather, the leading creative team has conducted an avant-garde exploration of “ideas + art + technology”. On the basis of continuing “Chinese-style aesthetics”, “China” has adopted the new documentary image presentation method of “painting + CG” in the third season. With the support of a large number of researchable graphic materials, those characters and events that existed in ancient legends were depicted with a brush. Through the blessing of CG technology, nearly a thousand artistic paintings were in motion, giving all elements a flexible expression and presenting an imaginary space about ancient civilization.

In order to ensure the production of the content, the documentary team has invited well-known historical and archaeological experts such as Wang Zijin, Xu Hong, Sha Wutian, and Ruan Mingtao to strictly control relevant historical materials, facts, and historical views throughout the process, invited the moderators Zhou Tao and He Jiong to participate in the dubbing, and selected outstanding young artists as well as painters in China to create a high-quality historical documentary with awe. The documentary has received unanimous praise from historians and professional institutions such as Xu Zhuoyun, Yi Zhongtian, the Chinese Academy of History, the Liangzhu Museum, the Xi’an Museum, and the Erlitou Site Museum of the Xia Capital. In the short video platform Douyin where young Chinese gathered, many bloggers spontaneously produced their videos of second creation for “China”, and the popularity remained high. The single video posted by the blogger “Xiaoxiang Lide” was played more than 10 million times.

It is reported that the third season of “China” will officially celebrate its ending in early December.

China Everything’s Feature: How Has the BRI Changed the World?

China Everything’s Feature: How Has the BRI Changed the World?

Over the past decade, the world has never been more connected and related from different dimensions. Launched 10 years ago, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has mapped out the win-win cooperation model for the BRI countries and regions along the route, and it has also provided new momentum for economic growth.

How did the BRI transform from a top-level design to a practical implementation and what path has it travelled to today’s success?

China Everything follows the timeline of the BRI to sort out its development process and display to the world how an initiative grew into practice participated in by more than 150 countries and regions, and 30 international organizations.

In 2013, President Xi Jinping first proposed the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, which were later known as the Belt and Road Initiative. Since then, a large number of infrastructure projects have been carried out under the initiative, enabling hundreds of countries to advance infrastructure construction from railways to basic public service facilities. The initiative has not only promoted economic development, but also improved people’s well-being.

The past decade has proved the BRI as a prototype of global partnership of connectivity to achieve common development and prosperity. “I’m confident that as we work closely together, we will embark on a path of win-win cooperation,” said Xi Jinping.

Joining hands with the “Belt and Road” to share the light and travel together in the future

Joining hands with the “Belt and Road” to share the light and travel together in the future

The construction of the mangrove wildlife protection base of the No. 7 project in Java provides a good habitat for local wildlife and is of great significance for ecological protection and biodiversity.

Indonesia is the initiator of the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”. China Energy has continuously cultivated in the docking of China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” and Indonesia’s “Global Marine Fulcrum” concept, which has promoted the win-win cooperation between China and Indonesia, but also valued the cultures of each other, vividly demonstrating the profound connotation of the “community with a shared future for mankind”.

The project is co-built. China Energy is the largest Chinese-funded company investing in Indonesia’s power sector, with total assets of US $3.184 billion and a total installed capacity of 3,100 megawatts, accounting for 8% of Indonesia’s total installed coal power capacity.

The Nansu Power Plant has been running for 11 consecutive years without any faults, and Unit 1 has the world’s longest continuous operation of coal-fired power units. The project 7 in Java is the largest thermal power unit with independent intellectual property rights that Chinese companies have invested overseas. The project 1 in Nansu is expected to achieve commercial operation by 2024. Three projects have provided Indonesia with safe and stable electricity and created more than 7,000 jobs.

Technology sharing. China Energy actively promotes the application of advanced and mature safe, clean and environmentally friendly power generation technologies to convert lignite into clean and efficient electricity, setting an international precedent. The Nansu Power Plant successfully responded to grid failures, protecting equipment and grid safety with professional expertise and rapid response. The main economic and technical indicators of the project 7 in Java save about 850,000 tons of fresh water every year. The vice president of the National Power Company of Indonesia (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) said that China’s power technology has important reference significance for the development of Indonesia’s power industry.

Ecological symbiosis. China Energy is deeply rooted in the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. The Nansu Power Plant converted the old coal water sedimentation tank into a lotus viewing fish pond, and added a silencing device to achieve a “silent mode”. An earth dam was built in the planning area of the project 7 in Java, which increase the mangrove area in the construction area by 30% after the completion.

China Energy and Indonesian partners have in-depth discussions on new energy development, comprehensive utilization of conventional energy and green transformation, signed a memorandum of understanding for the 50MW grid-connected photovoltaic project in Serang and the 5MW rooftop photovoltaic project in Java, and actively promoted the bidding for the 100MW floating photovoltaic project in Kalang Kades, Indonesia.

Humanities are valued. China Energy pays attention to the improvement of Indonesian employees’ technical and management capabilities, builds an innovative talent development platform. In order to cultivate local talents in Indonesia, the first university simulation machine laboratory in Indonesia was established with an investment of 1.45 million RMB.

China Energy builds long-term aid relationships with local welfare agencies and improves infrastructure. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, $267,000 in supplies were donated to Indonesia. The “Anna’s Wish” student aid fund was established to support the education of the children of poor Indonesian employees. More than 5,500 Chinese colleagues have responded, donating more than 360,000 RMB. The love story of Fang Bing, a Chinese employee, and Hana, an Indonesian girl, was made into the film “Love at Zero Latitude”.

The successful practice of the China Energy in Indonesia shows that China has built a world of lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness, inclusiveness, and cleanness and beauty.

China Energy Promotes Friendship Between Chinese and Indonesian Youths

China Energy Promotes Friendship Between Chinese and Indonesian Youths

Indonesian and Chinese youths participated in the roundtable dialogue

A group of young people, six Indonesian and six Chinese, visited representative enterprises of China Energy from September 22 to 26 as part of the “We Are Together: Silk Road Youth’s China Energy Tour” organized by the company. The young delegation learnt about these enterprises’ achievements in areas such as digital transformation, sci-tech innovation, and development of green and clean energies, and held a roundtable dialogue of in-depth discussions, building a bridge for the friendly communication and exchanges between Chinese and Indonesian youths.

During the five-day trip, young representatives from both countries visited Beijing Guoneng Gas-fired Cogeneration Power Plant, where they learnt about its fully intelligent, high-reliability operation and maintenance processes, and the green power generation technology featuring ultra-low emissions of dust, SOx, NOx, and CO2. They went to Hangjin Energy Co., Ltd., where they observed the automatic, intelligent coal mining process at a coal mine, and visited a CCUS (post-combustion CO2 capture, sequestration and utilization) demonstration project that develops a new-generation technology that captures CO2 from the flue gas with independent IPR. The captured CO2 can then be injected underground for oil recovery or sold to nearby chemical plants for production. They went to the Skyway Chongli Wind Farm, where they found out how new energy technology helped achieve a carbon-neutral Beijing Olympic Winter Games in 2022, and observed how the HICMS (holographic integrated condition monitoring system) monitors the wind turbine blades, tower barrel and foundation. They came to the Huanghua Port, the world’s first dry bulk port realizing full-process intelligent operation, which impressed the Indonesian guests deeply with its efficient, intelligent, and clean production. They also visited the Cangdong Power Plant, where the seawater desalination demonstration project that processes seawater to be potable amazed the Indonesian youths.

The youths from both countries had a roundtable dialogue in Beijing on September 26, at which they talked about their visits to China Energy and a number of other topics including energy digitalization, technological innovation, ecological progress, new energy development, and cultural blending between China and Indonesia. They agreed that the extensive cooperation between the two countries in such areas as energy development, application of new technology, and green and low-carbon development has offered more opportunities for the growth of young people. Youths from both countries work together in sci-tech innovation, technological transformation, and industrial upgrading, through which they come to understand each other better and jointly promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between the two countries.

China Energy announced the establishment of an Indonesian branch of the China Energy Young Makers Alliance during the roundtable dialogue. The alliance is aimed to cultivate young, innovative talent, and the formation of the Indonesian branch will provide a platform for Indonesian youths to enhance their expertise and skills and become more innovative and efficient.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. In the past ten years, China Energy has made consistent efforts to align the China-proposed BRI with Indonesia’s Global Maritime Fulcrum strategy by investing in and building three safe, eco-friendly, clean and efficient power plants, ensuring stable power supply in the local areas and acting out the vision for building the China-Indonesia community of shared future. China Energy plans to turn the “We Are Together” cultural program into a regular platform for promoting the communication, mutual learning and friendship between Chinese and Indonesian youths.
