The Lagos State PDP governorship aspirant, Prince Laja Adeoye, has joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeoye said the move was aimed at clearing the path for his ambition and avoid distractions arising from the PDP internal leadership crises.
In a statement issued on Friday in Lagos, the politician said the decision was strategic and not a rejection of the PDP family.
Adeoye said he still maintained cordial relations with PDP leaders and structures across the state.
According to him, the move becomes necessary to sustain preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
“We have adopted the APM platform to stay focused. There is too much work ahead for Lagos in 2027.
“We cannot allow internal party tussles to stop us from providing the quality leadership Lagosians truly deserve.
“We are confident that our people are hungry for fresh leadership and a new direction away from the APC’s long years of misgovernance,” he said.
He said the move aligned with the political strategy of Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, describing him as a major opposition figure in the South-West.
Adeoye noted that several opposition politicians in Oyo State had adopted APM to brighten their electoral chances.
Adeoye noted that he had earlier emerged as the consensus PDP governorship candidate in Lagos before the transfer of support to APM.
He added that the PDP structure in Lagos had endorsed the alliance arrangement with APM.
Adeoye said that the Lagos PDP Chairman, Amos Fawole, had confirmed the collaboration between both parties.
“The PDP has entered a strategic alliance with the APM. All candidates, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly, will contest under the APM banner.
“This ensures they are not shut out by INEC timelines while the PDP continues to resolve its internal matters.
“The PDP structure remains solidly united behind Laja Adeoye, other candidates and the shared goal of rescuing Lagos,” he quoted Fawole as saying.
Adeoye said his “Better Lagos Agenda 2027”, tagged “Atunto Eko 1.0: Re-Engineering Lagos for Inclusive Prosperity”, would address key developmental challenges.
According to him, the agenda focuses on infrastructure renewal, affordable housing, debt sustainability, security and economic growth.
“This is about putting Lagos first. We are united with our PDP brothers and sisters, working together with APM to end the cycle of hardship.
“We also want to open a new chapter of progress, prosperity and inclusive growth for every Lagosian,” he added.
According to him, APM remains one of the few political parties without internal crises or legal disputes. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
