The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) is actively partnering with the Nigeria Police to prioritise the health of officers in the territory.

Dr Rufus Ebegba, Chairman PCRC in the FCT, made this known during a free medical outreach to Police Officers in Abuja on Thursday.

“Today, I believe that with the current socio-economic problem facing our country, there is a need for the officers and men of the Nigerian Police to constantly check their health status.”

According to him, the force is made up of men and women tested and declared medically fit before joining the profession.

“The PCRC has become part and parcel of the Nigerian Police because they invited us in 1984 to join them, to support them logistically, provide intelligence and other needs.

“The PCRC is 42 years old. We have tried to live above board, but we realise that the health of our officers are very vital and we also give them some basic medication,” he said.

He commended the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Sanusi, for the opportunity given to the FCT PCRC Command for the medical outreach.

Ebegba prayed for the security of the country even in the midst of challenges of insecurity.

Also speaking, the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Sanusi, commended the (PCRC) on its unwavering support and partnership in ensuring regular medical screening and outreach focused on the wellbeing of the police personnel.

“The job is so demanding to the extent that at times, we even forget to eat, talk more of having time to go to the hospitals to check our vitals and other things.

“This initiative will in no small measure go a long way to help our men to discover early enough if they have any medical challenge. We are not able to go for check ups but you have brought it to us.

“The command can also support you with logistics to add up to whatever you have on ground so that more officers can be reached,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
