The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it targets greater efficiency and impact through strategic leadership after recording commendable achievements in the second quarter of 2026.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed said this at the “Half Year 2026 Corps Marshal Strategy Session with the FRSC High Command” on Wednesday in Abuja.
The session has the theme, “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Enhanced Service Delivery in a Challenging Environment”.
Mohammed said that the corps had recorded immense success in enforcement, public enlightenment, emergency response, patrol operations, stakeholder engagement and other aspects of the corps mandate.
He also said that the success was not going to be a cause for relaxation, but a call to collective responsibility towards building a stronger, more resilient and forward-looking institution capable of delivering efficient and responsive road services.
According to him, this strategy session provides an important platform for us to take a critical look at our performance during the second quarter.
“This is with a view to assessing the implementation of previous resolutions, identifying emerging institutional and operational gaps, and developing practical strategies for addressing them.
“More importantly, it offers us the opportunity to align our activities with the broader expectations of the government and the changing realities of road safety management in Nigeria.”
The corps marshal added that in spite of the commendable achievements, the corps acknowledged that the operating environment was changing and becoming increasingly challenging.
“Rapid technological advancement, changing traffic patterns, increasing vehicle population, emerging mobility trends and evolving public expectations require us to continuously review our systems, processes and methods of operation.
“We must therefore strengthen our institutional capacity through effective leadership, improved personnel development, technology-driven operations, robust data management, innovation, accountability and efficient utilisation of resources.
“The FRSC must remain an institution that anticipates emerging challenges rather than merely responding to them,” he said.
Mohammed tasked top management of the FRSC to provide the strategic leadership required to reposition the corps for greater efficiency and impact.
He called for candid, evidence-based and solution-oriented deliberations on all fronts from the leadership of the corps.
He noted that it was imperative to strengthen coordination and collaboration across commands and formations, adding that institutional effectiveness could not be achieved in isolation.
“We must work as one corps, guided by common objectives, shared responsibility and a unified commitment to service excellence.
“Every command and officer must understand that the quality of our service delivery ultimately determines the confidence that Nigerians repose in us,” he added.
The FRSC boss commended the dedication, professionalism and resilience of officers who have made sacrifices in the service of the nation often under difficult circumstances.
He said that their commitment remained the greatest asset of the corps, adding that the leaders owe them the responsibility of providing the right environment, tools, training and support required for them to perform effectively.
He emphasised that the corps remained firmly committed to the values of integrity, discipline, professionalism, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
According to him, these values are non-negotiable in sustaining the confidence of government and the Nigerian people, while preserving the reputation of the FRSC as a leading public safety institution.
He lauded the support and encouragement of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Sen. George Akume, in his remark, said that the session reflected the need to build stronger institutions.
Akume, represented by the Permanent Secretary, SGF General Service Office, Dr Abubakar Kana, said it also enhanced professionalism and improved service delivery in an increasingly demanding operational environment.
He reiterated that President Bola Tinubu remained committed to strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery through the renewed hope agenda.
According to him, the president appreciates the FRSC for its vital role in protecting lives, promoting safer routes, and supporting national development.
“The strategy session provides an opportunity to review performance, assess your progress, identify challenges, and develop practical strategies that will strengthen and improve operational effectiveness of the corps.
“In today’s rapidly challenging environment characterised by increasing traffic, technological advancements and evolving security concerns, the FRSC must continue to strengthen its systems, invest in its personnel, and leverage technology to remain responsive and effective,” he said. (NAN)
