The Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Mr Mukhtaar Tijani, has inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of Iju Waterworks.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project aims to restore water production capacity and improve potable water supply across Lagos State.
A statement by the Lagos Water Corporation on Wednesday said the project was approved and funded by the state government.
It said the inspection assessed progress on the installation of new pumping equipment under the Lagos Water Renewal Programme.
During the visit, Tijani inspected installation works and received project updates from production managers and representatives of KSB Pumps.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work completed so far.
According to him, six new clear water pumps and one pump head are being installed at the Iju Waterworks.
He said the new equipment would replace ageing pumps and improve the plant’s production capacity.
Tijani said procurement had been completed, while all equipment had been delivered and installation was progressing as scheduled.
He described the inspection as part of routine monitoring under the Lagos Water Renewal Programme.
The managing director also announced similar rehabilitation plans for the Akute Waterworks.
He said the corporation would procure two new raw water pumps with a combined abstraction capacity of 24 million gallons daily.
According to him, the pumps are expected before the end of August, after which installation will begin immediately.
Tijani commended KSB Pumps for its professionalism and commitment to the project.
He expressed confidence that the rehabilitation would increase water production for Lagos residents upon completion.
The KSB Pumps Project Manager, Mr John Gbadegesin, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule.
Gbadegesin said the rehabilitation would revive the Iju Waterworks and improve potable water supply across Lagos.
He added that the company was working towards completing the project before the end of the year.
Earlier, the Production Manager, Iju Waterworks, Mr Balogun Kamar, led the delegation on an inspection of key project sites.
The facilities inspected included Clear Water Stations 1 and 2 and the Power House.
Kamar said all required equipment had been supplied and installation was progressing according to schedule.
He expressed optimism that the project would be completed by October, boosting water production and improving supply to residents. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
