The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has arrested three suspects over the alleged theft and sale of electrical cables in Agbona Village, Iwo Local Government Area of the state.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Toma Enya, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters on Monday in Osogbo.
The suspects were identified as Taliatu Olunlade, 60; Wasiu Olunlade, 25; and Ganiyu Ayomide, 22.
Enya said the suspects were arrested on Sept. 4 following an investigation into the disappearance of electrical cables kept in the community.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the cables were temporarily removed in November 2025 due to road construction activities in Agbona Village.
According to him, the removal of the cables was carried out following an arrangement between the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and community leaders.
He said the cables were subsequently packaged and kept at a location close to the residence of one of the suspects, Taliatu Olunlade.
The commandant, however, said that after some months, the cables reportedly began to disappear gradually from where they were kept.
Enya said discreet investigation by the command led to the arrest of the three suspects.
He said that further investigation revealed that the cables were allegedly removed in bits and sold to a principal suspect, simply identified as Aminu, who is currently at large.
He said the suspects confessed to selling the stolen cables to Aminu, a metal scrap dealer, for N150,000.
He said investigation was ongoing, while efforts were being intensified to apprehend Aminu and bring him to justice.
The commandant added that at the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged to court in accordance with the law.
Enya warned individuals involved in the vandalism, theft or illegal trading of critical national assets and infrastructure to desist from such acts.
He said the command would continue to take action against anyone found involved in the sabotage of government infrastructure.
“To the good people of Osun, I appeal to you to collaborate with us by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities, particularly those relating to the theft, vandalism or illegal sale of electrical cables and other critical national assets,” he said.(NAN)
