The Rotary Club of Abuja Delight FCT, has pledged to create a lasting impact in the Gita community, Bwari Area Council, through humanitarian and community development projects.
The District President, Justina Ndubisi, made this pledge at the installation and fundraising event on Monday in Abuja.
Ndubisi recounted how divine timing and persistence led her back to the club convener, Lovina Okorn-Ntui after initial hurdles.
“Sometimes, what looks like a coincidence is actually part of God’s plan,” noting that the foundational mentorship she received from the Rotary Club of Abuja Kubwa was instrumental to her joining the club.
Ndubisi said the club adopted Gita community and had already implemented about five projects in the area.
She said her one-year tenure would focus on laying a strong foundation for the club and implementing projects that would have lasting benefits for the residents.
“My goal is creating lasting impact, doing things that will make my name known and laying a good foundation, a foundation that will not be forgotten,” she said.
Laying out a robust roadmap for the future, Ndubisi structured the club’s strategic agenda around four core priorities designed to foster measurable, long-term change.
“Community Development; Centred around the newly adopted Gita village, where initial needs assessments have already begun paving the way for larger, sustainable community interventions.
“Health and Education; featuring a direct partnership with Silver Cross Hospitals aimed at covering surgical costs for financially constrained expectant mothers to protect maternal and child health.
“Fellowship and Growth; cultivating an inclusive, vibrant club culture focused on personal development and deep interpersonal connection among members.
“We are also carrying out youth empowerment programmes; mentoring the next generation of leaders through active collaboration with Interact and Rotaract clubs,” Ndubisi said.
She urged the members to serve with commitment and humanity, rather than for personal recognition.
Ndubisi, who said she became a Rotarian in the year 2023, explained that her motivation for joining the organisation was the passion for humanitarian services and helping people.
She said Rotary had taught her leadership, tolerance and how to relate better with people.
Also speaking at the event, District Gov., District 9127, Sikiru Owonikoko, expressed delight over the establishment of the new club.
Owonikoko said membership was one of Rotary’s major strengths, adding that the formation of more clubs and recruitment of more members would enable the organisation to extend its services to more communities.
He charged the new club to increase its membership, execute impactful community projects and strengthen unity among its members.
Mr Christian Uchendu, Assistant Governor, Rotary Club of Abuja Municipal, encouraged members of the new club to build friendships and networks while contributing to the development of society.
He said Rotary had about 1.4 million members worldwide, describing the organisation as a platform for friendship, networking and humanitarian service.
On her part, the Planning Committee Chairperson, Onyinyechi Ogbueze, noted that the event served the dual purpose of leadership transition and capital accumulation.
“This event is not just to usher in the new president, it is also to raise funds for the subsequent projects that we’re going to do, because Rotaract is all about service and impact in society,” Ogbueze said.(NAN)
