Abuja July 16, 2026 (NAN) The police on Thursday, dragged a 32-year-old man, Anthony Amin, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Abuja over alleged assault and causing hurt.
The defendant, a resident of Abuja, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and causing hurt.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Festus Ajayi, told the court that a complainant, one Mr Barnabas Andrew of Soul Lounge Resort in Abuja, reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Station on July 13.
The prosecutor alleged that following a misunderstanding on the said date, the defendant became offended and began hurling insults at the complainant..
According to the prosecutor, this led to a fight and the defendant allegedly punched the complainant on his mouth which caused him injury.
The prosecutor told the court that the complainant was consequently taken to a Federal Healthcare in Mabushi, where he spent the sum of N70,000 on treatment.
He alleged that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.
He also said that offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 246 and 265 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum..
The court held that the surety must be a civil servant, must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with a verified address and must depose to an affidavit.
The matter was adjourned until Aug. 19 for hearing.(www) (www.nannews.ng)
