Members of various ethnic nationalities on Saturday in Benin, the capital city of Edo, staged a road walk through the Benin metropolis to canvass support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The participants marched from King Square through Mission Road and terminated at the Ministry of Education, calling on residents to support Tinubu and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.

The Commissioner for Inter-Ethnic Relations in Edo, Mr Anayochukwu Oli, who hails from Enugu State, said the group was committed to delivering the 2.5 million votes it had promised the president.

Oli, who was also the coordinator of the road walk, expressed confidence that APC candidates would win the various elective positions in the state by wide margins.

He said the group would continue to sensitise residents on what it described as the achievements of Tinubu’s administration and the need to support his re-election to enable him continue his development agenda.

“We will continue to sensitise our people in Edo, letting them know about the good works of the president and his good intentions for Nigeria.

“His reforms might be difficult, but they are aimed at the growth, development and stability of the Nigerian economy.

“I urge all of us to continue to preach to others, showing them the developmental strides of our president and governor and the need to vote for continuity to ensure that development is spread across Nigeria,” he said.

Oli also commended Tinubu’s education policy, particularly the student loan scheme, which he said had provided students with access to interest-free loans to support their education, irrespective of their parents’ financial circumstances.

Speaking after the road walk, Elder Pius Iyamu, President of Niger Delta Indigenes in Edo, said the exercise was aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election.

“This road walk we have just concluded shows that Niger Delta indigenes and other ethnic nationalities living in Edo are on the ground for President Tinubu.

“We shall embark on door-to-door campaigns to mobilise support and canvass votes for the president and other APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections,” he said.

Similarly, Moshood Kolawole, who spoke on behalf of the Yoruba ethnic nationality in the state, said the group participated in the march to support Tinubu’s second-term bid.

“We are here for the progress, growth and development of Nigeria, as President Tinubu stands for growth and development.

“We are all out here today to celebrate our president and ensure he wins the election,” Kolawole said.

An APC Igbo Woman Leader in Edo, Mrs Victoria Okechukwu, said the large turnout for the road walk demonstrated the participants’ commitment to mobilising votes for Tinubu in 2027.

“We are ready to deliver President Tinubu in 2027. The 2.5 million votes are assured, and President Tinubu will be returned to Aso Rock for a second term,” she said. (NAN)
