The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Bashir Adeniyi, has approved a closed-door camping for Nigerian Wrestlers ahead of the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
This is contained in a statement by Promise Okotoko, NWF Media Assistant, in Abuja.
He said the intensive camping programme will be held in two designated venues in Bayelsa and Ondo.
Okotoko said the decision to commence camping underscores the federation’s commitment to providing the athletes with necessary preparation, and support to complete effectively at the global championship.
The Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Akuh Purity, who also serves as the head coach of women’s wrestling team, said the camping will strengthen the wrestlers.
“The camping will further strengthen the wrestlers physically, technically and mentally,” Purity said.
Purity commended the NWF President for being supportive of the home-based and foreign-based wrestlers.
“Such initiatives demonstrate Adeniyi’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian wrestlers, both home-based and foreign-based, receive the necessary support to compete on the international stage,” he said.
The 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan will bring together the world’s leading wrestlers, with Team Nigeria expected to compete across different registered weight categories.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
